Below are personal recommendations of shows I have seen or seen other shows by the same creative team, and this post will be updated with more shows in the weeks to come.

Apparently Ugly (5-31 August)

Apparently Ugly is a brand new musical that features Cinderella's step-sisters and how things move on for them once they've witnessed the wedding of Cinderella to her prince.

Packed with humour and catchy music, this is a family show for all ages.

Armageddon Outta Here (6-17 August)

This show follows two astronauts, as an asteroid is hurtling toward Earth. Written by Tom Johnson, and Chris Roberts, and co-starring Rob Glenister, this new sketch comedy hour grew from their Short & Sweet award-winning ten minute piece Sacrifice, expanding into a full collection of surreal sketches surrounding regrettable incidents at the end of the world.

Information and tickets are over on the Edinburgh Fringe website here.

You can read my review of Verbal Diary, also by Tom Johnson, here.

The Detective's Demise (6-30 August)

This is a new Murder Mystery musical by Grownup Playhouse which I reviewed in preview last year in London.

It is worth noting that the people behind this show are taking a total of 4 shows to Fringe this year so be sure to type Grownup Playhouse into the search page and see if any of the others appeal to you.

Nearlyweds - The Musical (14-29 August)

I saw Nearlyweds in London last year, and wrote a post about it here. I've been following updates on the show ever since and feel like it's probably developed a lot since I last saw it. I am looking forward to seeing how this show has evolved at some point.

Also be sure to search for Jaz Alice Music, as the writer/director/composer of Nearlyweds also performs in a sing-along princess show for children, Once Upon a Tune, and a Best of the West End Musicals show from 7-29 August.

William Street (16-21 August)

I saw William Street in Oxford and reviewed it here.

Set in Ireland during the troubles, and based on one family during the events leading up to Bloody Sunday, this is a hard hitting psychological thriller based in true events during a period of recent history which will leave you thinking long after seeing it.

The age suggestion for this play during the Oxford run was 16+ and I completely agree with this (content includes violence, language, terrorism, weapons, implied use of tobacco & alcohol).
